Overview
A memorable hike with incredible views of Mt Fuji and an introduction to the history and folklore of Hakone which makes the area so interesting.
The guided tour includes a 4 hour hike up Mt.Kintoki, one of the most famous mountains in Hakone. The tour starts in the morning with pick up in the Hakone area and a drive to the Kintoki shrine. This is the first important cultural site on our tour. We will learn about the history of the shrine which is dedicated to Sakato no Kintoki, a
legendary figure in Japanese history and folklore. Japanese people still visit the shrine today to pray and we will have the opportunity to pray too before we start our hike. The hike is around 5 km during which we will ascend 600m.
We will learn about the folklore of the area as we pass several significant points on the route to the summit where we will have lunch at a traditional mountain top tea house, famous for its Udon noodles.
On a clear day there are incredible views of Mt.Fuji and Owakudani, a fascinating sulphur area. The Hakone area has many geo thermal features which we can view from the summit. We will also see evidence of the 2015 eruption.
We will take a different route down the mountain so we can enjoy good views of the east side of Hakone with its beautiful grasslands surrounding the town.
Every visitor to Japan should experience a traditional onsen and a visit to Hakone’s famous onsen is the perfect end to a day’s hike. Following the onsen visit you will be dropped off back at your Hakone location.
